Wear Fun Run shirt with Jeans or PE Bottoms (Kids will be covered in chalk at the end of the day, if you pick them up you may want to bring a towel) Parents are welcome to join us to watch the craziness and fun that will take place at 2:00!
Happy New Year! Hope everyone enjoyed the winter break and ready to return to our normal routines. We will be reading the story Let's Go to the Moon. It is the first story in book 4. For spelling we now have 12 words! Don’t worry I know the kids can do it. We will also have two sentences. The words are: go, so, no, home, hole, wrote, rope, joke, bone, poke, stove, chose Sentences: Can you get a bone at home? There is no rope by the stove. I will be sending home information about conferences later this week. I will let you know, through Class Dojo, when I send them home with your child. Don’t forget that the following Monday, January 16th, is a holiday in remembrance of Martin Luther King. Have a great week!
We have so much going on this week. It will be a very fun week. Shirts for the Christmas program will be coming home on Tuesday. Students need to wear them with their school shorts (khaki or PE shorts) at the Christmas Program Thursday evening. Students need to be in the GYM no later than 5:45. I will be there waiting for them. They will know where to find me. Program starts at 6:00 This week we will be reviewing and catching up. There will not be any spelling words or a story from our reading book. Instead each day is going to have a fun theme with lots of activities that will be reviewing what we have learned this semester. Our themes are as follow: Monday: The Holy Family Tuesday: Angels Wednesday: Gingerbread Men Thursday: Christmas Carols Friday: The Polar Express. This will be our "Party Day" It will be VERY low key. Students may wear Pajamas to school, with their sneakers, keep in mind we do have PE that day. They will also be bringing home their Stockings. If your child is going to be bringing an item to put in the stocking please have it here by Friday Morning.
Religion - We will be concentrating on being especially thankful during the month of November! Friday Bible Story - The Story of Elizabeth. Math - measuring, odd numbers, time on the hour, number words, practice math facts Spelling - Unit 13 - ship, shop, shell, fish, when, whip, which, graph Sentence: Which fish had a shell? Reading - Seasons (Unit 13, book 3) I have some fun Thanksgiving activities to do work th the class this week. We will be learning about the First Thanksgiving. I will be out on Wednesday for the day.
This week we are using it to catch up on math, reading and phonics. That means we will not be having any spelling words or a reading story for the week. Instead we will be reviewing work that we have been doing the past couple of weeks. Catching those who have been absent, up on any missing work. We will also be participating in special Veteran's Day activities. Please do not forget to send in any can/box goods for our food drive this week. Friday will be the last day for collecting.
Our Gym Trick-or-Treat will be on Monday, October 31, at 1:15. Our actual classroom party will be right after we return to the classroom. If you signed up for an item for the party please be sure to send it in no later than Monday Morning. The children may wear their costume to school that day. Please do not allow any gory, bloody, or inappropriate costumes and do not send your child wearing any makeup or accessories such as wands, masks, swords, etc. I have explained to them to save those items for Halloween night. It may even be necessary to have a different costume for school in order to be appropriate. Keep in mind that they’ll need to be able to use the restroom by themselves! Also, they really need to be comfortable so please, please, please make sure they wear something they can wear with comfort all day.
First grade will not be having conferences on Thursday or Friday. Our conferences will be held in January. Report cards will be going home this week with your child. More information will be coming home with your report card about the grades. Thursday and Friday are still Early Dismissal days for us. Religion: All Saints and Souls - We will be learning about some of our favorite saints for the next two weeks. Reading: The Cupcake Party Spelling: us, bus, sun, fun, run, but, must, jump Sentence: Run to the bus in the sun. Math: Word problems. Count dimes and pennies. Ordinal numbers. Sums of 7. Largest and Smallest.
Reading - Unit 9: Dr. Seuss Spelling- Unit 9: yes, let, get, red, bed, ten, sled, step Sentence: Ten hens get on the bed. Math- adding 1 to a number, doubles, tallest, shortest, one more, count by 10s. Religion- Guardian Angel prayer, My Secret Friend, Friday Bible Story: David and Goliath All test will be on Thursday due to fieldtrip on Friday. Field Trip: We will be going to the Emerald Coast Theatre Company on Friday, October 14 to see The Cat in the Hat. We will leave the school at 8:30 and return after lunch. Your child will need to wear their school uniform and bring a sack lunch unless you have already let me know that they need one from the cafeteria. It is Fire Safety Week. Please go over how to call 911, students need to know how to call from a cell phone and what their address is. Also decide on a meeting place outside of your home in case your home is on fire.
We recently visited the Style Marchers at Choctawhatchee High School and the Viking Band at Fort Walton Beach High School for the annual Middle School Nights. Our kids went in a bit nervous but came out veterans when it comes to high school band! ;-) I was proud of the older kids in our community welcoming in all the middle school band musicians and making them feel welcome and encouraged!
Be sure to return your permission slip for the field trip and for the Matthews Nursery visit by Friday! Friday is early dismissal at 11:30. No lunch to be provided. Reading - A Musical Day Spelling Words - on, got, not, pop, hop, fox, block, clock Sentence - The fox will not hop on Pop. Math - Sums of 10 (fact families), doubles, shortest - tallest, what comes next. Religion - We have been learning the seven sacraments. We will be finishing them up this week. Bible Story Friday will be the story of Ruth.
Second grade will skip to story number 8 this Week: Super Storms. This will allow us to talk about the power of storms and how to be prepared, as well as giving us a Text to Self connection as we are watching the development of Hurricane Ian. We will continue with spelling list 7 this week, next week we will continue to read Super Storms and take spelling test 8 and reading test 8 on October 7th.
Reading: How Animals Communicate Spelling: Unit 7 - in, will, did, sit, six, big, trip Sentence: Six big pigs will sit. Math: Word Problems with addition and subtraction. Addition fact families. Doubles. Patterns. The new thing this week is that we will now be having a math fact test in addition to our regular test. This week's math fact test is all the doubles starting with 0+0=0 up to 5+5=10. Religion: This week we will learn about the Seven Sacraments and our Friday Bible Story will be Samson and Delilah.
Math - Word problems. Doubles 0+0 up to 5+5 for now. Graphing. Shapes. Writing addition facts. Reading - Unit 2, Jack and the Wolf. We have a new book! Spelling - an, can, ran, bad, had, cat, add, pass (We now have 8 words). Sentence - A bad cat ran to a can. Please practice writing the sentence at home! Capital letters and punctuation must be in correct places. Religion - Jesus is the Good Shepherd. Jesus takes care of us like shepherds take care of their sheep. Friday Bible Story - Joshua and the Battle of Jericho.
