School Internet Use Computer use is a privilege, and students who are unable to abide by the internet use policy will be disciplined. Controlled Internet access for educational purposes is available at Saint Mary School. As with other forms of educational media available in our school, every reasonable effort is made to supervise and limit all children's viewing to age-appropriate material that is consistent with Catholic teaching. The following rules will be enforced according to the same disciplinary procedures as other school rules found in the student handbook. Each child is expected to follow these directions for his or her safety and well-being.
Students will not attempt to access the Internet without adult supervision.
No material will be downloaded without teacher permission. This includes pictures!
Students will not send or receive e-mail or post messages without the teacher's approval.
Students will not enter chat rooms unless under the direct supervision of the teacher and then only to communicate with individuals known to the teacher.
Students will not use rude or profane language at any time.
Students will not give their names or other personal information to anyone on the Internet unless approved by the teacher in charge. (For almost all purposes, a first name or phrases such as "fifth grade student" will suffice.)
Students will only go to web sites approved by the teacher.
Students will NOT use search engines (examples are Google, Yahoo, Bing) to look for something unless directed to or approved to do so by the teacher.
Students may not instant message within any site or program without express teacher permission and supervision.
Students must honor copyright restrictions regarding use of electronic resources.
Students may not share passwords or other account information.
Students may not impersonate another person nor use another person's accounts or passwords.
Students may not use school resources to annoy, abuse, threaten, or harass another person.
Students may not send, receive, or display inappropriate materials.
Computer Account Use
Students are to use only their own computer account. Students are not to share their passwords with other students. Accessing another account or using another individual's password will be considered a violation of Saint Mary School discipline policies and will be addressed in accordance with those policies.
