Reading:
Unit 1 - What Is A Pal? We all read the story for the week together, first. Then, we break off into groups to read other stories (according to your child's reading level) that also go along with this story. We do this each week with a new unit. Your child should practice reading the story at home. The story can be found at the bottom of this page.
FOR YOUR INFORMATION: THE LINK TO THE ACTUAL READING BOOK IS ALSO AT THE BOTTOM OF THIS WEBPAGE UNDER "LINKS". "CLICK ON "BOOK 1". THEN YOU WOULD CHOOSE "UNIT 1" STORY "WHAT IS A PAL?" THAT LINK HAS SOME FUN OPTIONS .. PLAY AROUND WITH IT. :-)
Spelling:
Unit 1 - 1. am 2. at 3. sat 4. man 5. dad 6. mat
Dictation Sentence - I sat on a mat.
We will have a spelling test on Friday, August 12. Don't stress ... I will help them through the first couple of tests to make sure they know HOW to take the test. I'll make sure they know how to write on the line by the correct number, how to start a sentence with a capital letter, and how to put the appropriate punctuation at the end. Eventually, they'll be taking the spelling test without help from me and doing a great job! The word list will come home in their folder (as part of their daily work) EVERY day. I also put the list here on the webpage.
Math:
Math will start out with Kindergarten review. Don't worry if you think it is too easy. That will end soon and you'll be surprised at what all they learn this year! This math program (Saxon) is wonderful because is sets the child up for success. There are always concepts that they are familiar with first, then a new concept is introduced. The program reviews all areas over and over throughout the year ... word problems, addition, subtraction, fractions, geometry, time, money, temperature/thermometers, weight, measuring, etc.!
This week we will be reveiwing how to write the numbers, how to graph and the definitions of a "train" and a "tower". You'll see what I mean when you see the papers. :-)
Religion:
My Mass Book - We will be learning about The Mass, items in the church, how to participate in Mass, etc. On Fridays we will be concentrating on specific Bible Stories. This Friday will be "The Creation"
