This month we practice story recall and retelling with the three little pigs, talk about fire safety, and introduce fall/seasons and the lifecycle of a pumpkin.

Name Recognition/Tracing: we will continue to match our names and emphasis the first letter of our name, Please work on Name recognition at home, as we will begin to trace each letter of thier first name as fine motor skills advance. This is always done in a No Pressure situation. The key is to get them famiiar and comfortable. We practice using 3 pt holding of thier writing tool.
Self-Portraits: we will be working on drawing different size circles and lines and proper placement on thier self portrait
FINE MOTOR: we many activities to help prepare for pre-writing. Stickers, pouring, scooping, and tons of exposure to many types of writing/drawing media. Strengthening activites like lacing, peg boards, playdough, tongs, pincers help to strengthen the hand and fingers getting ready for pre writing
GROSS MOTOR: We are running, jumping, climping and excercising daily inside and outside. We work with learning how to toss catch and kick a ball, we will be working on tricycles.
Cutting: Any type of cutting you can let your kiddos experience at home is great! This is such an important skill. We work on it daily in class, it is kept very fun and is a CHOICE at this time. We use all different types of materials, so they can really work on proper holding and positioning of hand and fingers!
Journals: We are starting our journals this month. Much of thier work will be kept at school in the journals. This is where to do thier name tracing work, drawing self portraits, working on numbers and shapes, patterns, counting, name work.

SELF CARE SKILLS:
please ensure your child is continuing to be self suffucient in the restroom. This includes proper handwashing (water, soap, scrub, rinse, dry). This also includes being able to pull clothing up and down (make sure shorts are not too tight). Please also work on putting on socks and shoes independantly, as we remove these several times a day.
